10 Grooming Mistakes You Are Making & How To Fix Them
Grooming is not something most boys are interested in, nor know much about. However, the fact that you are actually reading this means that you indeed want to do something to improve your grooming sense. This is a good idea as poor grooming is a flaw in many guys.
You have come to the right place if you need some help in overcoming these flaws because we have compiled here a list of things you may be doing wrong, and what you can do about it. This way you can avoid making these mistakes as prevention is always better than cure!
1. Excessive body hair
The term excessive is rather broad as different people consider different hair lengths to be excessive. As the teddy bear look can trigger hygiene problems, it’s better to maintain your body hair at a reasonable length.
This means that if you are like some boys who want to have long beards, it’s okay as long as you keep yourselves and your beard clean. Your beard should be tight, while everything else should be in order. And most important of all, you have to find out what works best for you and use it all the time.
2. Handling dandruff
Dandruff is a problem many people suffer from, and nothing you should worry much about. You just have to buy and use some shampoo that helps control dandruff. While “Head & Shoulders” and other similar shampoos may help contain your dandruff problem, it’s also better to consider something natural like green tea treatment for your dandruff problem.
Besides, even though dandruff shampoos work well, you have to try other little things with it for quicker and better effects. An example is you should avoid sleeping with wet hair and always ensure your head is clean, moisturized and devoid of the day’s toxins before sleeping.
3. Yellow teeth
Discolored or yellow teeth are really bad but unfortunately, there are many people who don’t emphasize on their teeth maintenance. It’s usually the consumption of foods like coffee and wine and smoking that leads to your yellowed teeth. In addition to this, neglect and brushing with the wrong toothpaste can also lead to yellowed teeth.
While it was once advocated to maintain a habit of brushing your teeth thrice a day many doctors don’t advice this anymore. This is mainly because not many people have the time or patience to brush their teeth thrice a day.
However, it helps if you eat more of raw fruits and vegetables as it maintains your gum health. Any morning breath problems are easily addressed by a mouthwash, but too much of mouthwash is not good. It can end up killing your mouth’s good bacteria. Green tea is always a better and safer alternative.
4. Acne through the body
Body acne is tricky and generally resumed to be unavoidable. However not many know that it’s usually avoidable. It’s just that most people don’t know about the mistakes they are doing. Acne is best controlled once you know the cause of acne, which is clogged pores.
Wearing loose clothes prevents clogging of pores as your skin remains open most of the time. And if you go to the gym, maintain a habit of taking a shower immediately after gymming. In a nutshell, it means that you should have no problems handling your acne attacks if you keep yourself clean at all times. However, if your acne still persists, it’s worth investing in a good cleanser or acne treatment.
5. Wearing too much aftershave
Unlike other mistakes which are not in your control, the amount of aftershave is something you have control over. One or two splashes of aftershave are more than enough. Anything more only irritates others as it’s not hot or sexy as you may have imagined.
In fact, too much of cologne defies the reason for your wearing it in the first place as it only ends up setting you back a bit. Don’t worry if you have always worn extra aftershave. Just use slightly less of whatever you have been using to perhaps just two sprays or splashes after each shave.
6. Poorly maintained stubble
If you wear stubble, you also need to know how to groom it well as the five o’clock shadow and stubble is now in demand. 2012 studies from the University of New South Wales and Northumbria University’s 2008 paper cover how important men’s facial hair is in a woman’s perception of their attractiveness. And it was proven that women are naturally more attracted to men with stubby than clean-shaven faces.
But it’s effective only if men know how to maintain their stubble. It has to be kept trim otherwise it’ll end up making you look sloppy. Besides, unkempt stubble gives you more of a hung-over look. A stubble guard proves useful while trimming your stubble.
7. Nasal hair
Nasal hair is a big turnoff for women, and if you are a tall man, remember that most people will be looking up your nose instead of at it.
Tall men especially have to be careful about their nose hairs, which takes just about thirty seconds to remove.
Keep your nasal hairs trimmed so that someone ends up staring at it instead of admiring your handsome face.
8. Hair found above or inside ears
If you are a man who loves sporting side parts, remember that though it may look nice, it should be groomed so that it does not end up curling and sticking in your ears. You can use a little product to either stick back or help any hair invading your ears curve around your ears in a natural-looking arch.
Your whole ear should ideally be visible on both sides. However if you like hiding some of it, then it’s better done using hairs that either end behind or under your ear and not inside or above it. In case your product doesn’t seem to be of much help; then it means that it’s time that you did some trimming.
You no longer have to make a visit to your barber just to keep your hair looking clean or sharp. All you need is a pair of well-made clippers with various guide combs you can use to clean up around your ears whenever you notice that your hairs are going over your ears. This is, in fact, a reminder that it’s time you used your clippers to trim things. Not only can you use the clippers to trim your hair, but also to blend your aide, top and back hairs together. The benefit of doing this is that you have some time to extend your haircut’s life.
So here are the common grooming mistakes we once made, which we thought we’d pass our knowledge to people like you so that you needn’t end up making the same mistakes. We hope you find it useful and please do pass this information to all your friends and relatives who you think will find it helpful.
9. The hair on the neck
Whether you know it or not, most haircuts involve neatening your nape, or rather the outline where your haircut ends at the back of the neck. It’s especially necessary for men with hairy backs to ensure they have no hairs creeping up on their nape. Or even worse, have any hair peeping out of their collar.
You needn’t worry if you have hair on your neck as you can easily shave your neck at home using trimmers. This is much better as you just have to devote about thirty seconds in your everyday grooming schedule. This is indeed much better than having to spend so much time traveling across town just for a touch-up before something special.
Your regular trimming of the hair on the neck keeps its growth even and prevents any chance of your back hairs and haircut touching and making the back of your neck look untidy and unattractive. So keep it a point to shave smooth the point where your haircut ends to under your shirt collar.
10. Hair in ears
Hair in ears is as unsightly as nasal hair. The only difference is that it’s seen in the side-on view and not straight-up view. You just need to spend less than a minute trimming this hair every few days or weeks which is well worth it. However be careful while trimming as you needn’t go too much deep into your ears to trim it. Just trim your nasal and ear hair ends back till they are not visible.
